چکیده

Objectives The identification and interpretation of skeletal trauma is an important topic in osteoarchaeology, forensic anthropology palaeosciences. Trauma analysis a fast-moving sub-discipline with constantly evolving methodological approaches. This paper describes the process particular form fracturing that propagates specifically from floor cut marks proposes new terminology for this subset fractures. Materials Methods terminological gap was identified during re-examination remains minimum 52 decapitated individuals (52 post-cranial 47 cranial remains) found mass grave 10th–11th century CE on Ridgeway Hill near Weymouth Dorset (UK) 2009. Originally analyzed by Oxford Archaeology Ltd., all collection were re-appraised using digital technology to test techniques study. Results During investigation, it has become apparent length chop can be overestimated some conventional because transitions into fracture propagating mark. Discussion To increase awareness these fractures, term residual energy dispersal (RED) fractures proposed as are distinct other radiating arising sharp-blunt-force trauma. ability distinguish RED others potential contribute previously unidentified events surrounding injury.

Proposed pathogenesis for atypical femoral fractures: lessons from materials research.

Atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) have been well defined clinically and epidemiologically. Less clear are the underlying mechanisms responsible. This commentary points out the likely sources of decreased resistance to fracture using lessons from bone material studies and biomechanics. We hypothesize that the key element in the cascade of events leading to failure of the largest and strongest bo...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Energy Analysis of Hydraulic Fracturing

In this paper, numerical simulations of circular boreholes under internal hydraulic pressure are carried out to investigate the energy transferred to the surrounding rock and the breakdown pressure. The simulations are conducted by using a micromechanical continuum damage model proposed by Golshani et al. (2006). The simulation results suggest that the borehole breakdown pressure and the energy...

Management of Mandibular Fractures from Penetrating Trauma

Gunshot wound injuries to the face result in a varied scope of traumatic injuries. Mandible fractures may occur through this mechanism of injury, however when caused by firearms, the patterns of fracture and overall composite defects resulting are unique. The velocity of the weapon and the distance from which the injury occurred often determines the extent of injury produced from the penetratin...
